A Fairfield resident parked his 2002 Yamaha at Veterans Park and went to see the Fourth of July fireworks on Fairfield Beach, where he lost his keys, police said.
He was waiting for a second set to be shipped from Florida, but the motorcycle, valued at $4,000, disappeared from the park on July 10, police said.
An investigation revealed the motorcycle was involved in an accident in New Haven on July 11 and William Brunson, 45, of Read Street, had been riding it and was sent to the hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.
Brunson told officers he was walking in New Haven when a man asked if he’d like to buy the Yamaha for $1,500, which he said he did.
Brunson was charged with third-degree larceny and was held on $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 31.
