Man Charged With Strangulation In Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- A suspect was charged with striking and strangling his girlfriend in her Fairfield home early Sunday morning, police said.The victim came to police headquarters Sunday afternoon to report that Robert Perretta, 45, of Kensington, Conn. had attacked her just after midnight that morning, according to police reports. The Fairfield woman said the two got into a fight after coming home from a party the night before.Perretta struck the woman in her face and put his hands around her neck during the fight, according to the report. During the struggle, the two also fell into a closet door, breaking it from its hinges, police said.Police found bruises and swelling on the woman's arms and face and red marks on her neck, according to the report. In an interview with officers Sunday evening, Perretta admitted to being involved in a fight, but denied choking the victim, police said.Perretta was charged with second-degree strangulation, third-degree assault, second-degree unlawful restraint and disorderly conduct. He was released after posting a $5,000 bond and was due in court Monday.
