Fairfield Police received reports of a man attempting to break into Maione’s Restaurant on Stratfield Road at about 11 p.m. Wednesday, police say. A witness said the suspect was using a fire extinguisher to damage the lock on the restaurant’s door, according to the police report. Nothing was reported missing.
Officers saw Mauro Fanelli, 25, of Paisley Road walking about a block away from Maione’s after the call, police say. They identified him as a suspect but release him to continue investigating, according to the police report.
While investigating the restaurant break-in police received a second call of a burglary at a workshop on the property of a Church Hill Road home. Fanelli was again seen in the area, this time carrying an 18-pack of Bud Light cans, police say. Officers found that the beer was stolen from the Church Hill Road home, and also found paint on Fanelli linking him to the Maione’s burglary, according to police reports.
Fanelli was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, a felony, as well as two counts of third-degree criminal mischief and of sixth-degree larceny, both misdemeanors. He was released on a promise to appearp in court, and his hearing is scheduled for Feb. 7.
