Man Accused In Large-Scale Thefts At Fairfield Home Depot

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Bridgeport man arrested Monday is accused of being part of a “large shoplifting ring” suspected of taking thousands of dollars worth of power tools from Fairfield’s Home Depot store, police say.

Security guards at the Kings Highway store reported a string of high-value shoplifting cases to Fairfield Police in October and November last year. In at least four cases, suspects walked into the store and loaded combo kits and other power tools into shopping carts and left without paying, according to police reports.

Store employees believe the suspects took between $900 and $2,000 worth of items at a time, police say.

Fairfield Police investigators think the thefts might be linked to similar cases at Home Depot stores in Norwalk, Derby and Orange. Detectives believe the suspects are a part of a “large shoplifting ring” involving a fence operation based in Bridgeport, police say. A search of a storage unit in Bridgeport turned up $5,000 in stolen merchandise connected to the group, according to police reports.

Horace Kennebrew, 46, of Bridgeport was named a suspect in the case through police interviews, according to the arrest report. He was arrested on a warrant and charged with third-degree larceny, a felony, Monday afternoon.
