The World War II-era hand grenade, was found around 7 p.m. Saturday at the home located 45 Cornell Street in Bridgeport, said Bridgeport Police spokesman Av Harris.
The fire department, which arrived on scene first, confirmed the find and the State Police bomb squad was called.
The bomb squad, with help from fire and police, safely removed the grenade shortly after 8 p.m.
The bomb squad will be detonating the grenade at 90 Acres Park in Bridgeport as a precaution, Harris said.
“No one was injured but obviously we wanted all precautions to be taken," he added.
