Firefighters were called to 1565 Black Rock Turnpike at about 3:40 a.m. Friday due to reports of smoke coming from the building. Fire Department crews used a thermal imaging camera to determine which of the commercial building’s tenants contained the source of the fire, and entered Beans and Leaves, a tobacco store and hookah lounge, according to Asst. Chief Erik Kalapir.

Firefighters brought a hose line into the business and cut ventilation holes in the building’s roof to put out the fire. Investigators found that the fire was contained within the shop, and did not spread to the restaurant next door, Kalapir said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Fairfield Fire Marshal’s office. The building owner hopes the affected businesses will be able to reopen this weekend.
