According to the police report, Cheryl Simpson, 49, of Fairfield, had returned to her house on Denise Terrace on Wednesday afternoon and found her husband's car in the driveway with a woman inside.
The husband and Simpson began to argue about the woman's presence at their house, the police report said. As Simpson approached the car, her husband attempted to get block the door where the other woman, reportedly his girlfriend, was sitting in the car, police said.
Simpson then threw her hands up in a defensive manner and hit her husband in the mouth, leaving a cut on the inside of his lip and visible injuries on her knuckles, police said.
At the police station, the husband told officers that all he wanted was for Simpson to apologize for hitting him and said he did not try to harm her, police said.
Police charged Simpson with third-degree assault and released her on $5,000 bond with a court date of April 10. No information regarding her court appearance was available.
