Daniel Boyle, 23, of Manchester, N.H., told campus security that he had been robbed of $40 in cash on campus, police said. He gave a detailed description of the events and of the suspect, police said.

Security contacted Fairfield police and six units responded, with the K-9 officer, to investigate. During the investigation, police say Boyle became vague about the incident and tried to downplay it.

After an hour, Boyle told police that the incident had not taken place and said he had told campus security the story to get the attention of his girlfriend.

Boyle was arrested and charged with interfering with an officer and second-degree falsely reporting an incident. He was held on $2,500 bond and given a court date of Nov. 25.
