Fairfield Selectmen Honor Police Officers For Heroic Work

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Supporting and taking the time to thank local police officers for the hardwork and danger they face each day to protect citizens is what the National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day is all about.

To honor the town's officers, the Board of Selectmen issued a proclamation to the Fairfield Police Department in recognition of the day, which took place on Jan. 9, First Selectman Mike Tetreau said.

On National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, citizens across the nation are called to support law enforcement in a number of ways that include sending a card of support to their local police department or state agency; sharing a story about a positive law enforcement experience on social media; asking children or adults in the community to write letters in support of law enforcement; and, most importantly, if you see a police officer, thank a police officer. But you don't have to wait for a special day to offer thanks, said Tetreau.

“On this important day, and every day throughout the year, the Fairfield community is encouraged to support and thank the men and women who put themselves on the front lines and those who work behind the scenes at our Police Department," he said. "The Town of Fairfield appreciates the dedication, hard work and bravery of the members of our Police Department, both past and present, who help protect our community and keep it a safe place, day in and day out.

"I want to especially thank Dr. and Mrs. Dennis Poster for highly encouraging the town to recognize Fairfield’s finest on this important day."

Police Chief Gary MacNamara, who attended the Board of Selectmen meeting along with members of the Police Department and Police Commission, accepted the proclamation on behalf of the men and women in his department, whom he thanked for working round the clock and putting their lives on the line for the Fairfield community.

“This day is an opportunity to recognize the work of national, state and local officers,” he said.
