Fairfield Police Warn Of Distraction Scammers

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield Police are warning residents about thieves who pretend to be workmen and distract homeowners while accomplices steal valuables.

A Davis Road resident told police that on Tuesday afternoon she was visited by a man in his 40s who offered to do home improvement work. He then led her into her backyard to look at a different portion of the house.

Meanwhile, a second person went into the house through the front door, took a few thousand dollars in cash and jewelry and fled before the owner saw him.

Police searched the area but were unable to find either man who came to the door or his accomplices.

Police advise residents to be cautious with door-to-door solicitors offering to do home improvement work. They say homeowners should call police dispatchers immediately at 203-254-4800 in suspicious cases.
