When the officer stopped the car in the area of Black Rock Turnpike and Overlook Drive, he reported the driver had glassy, red eyes and the smell of fresh marijuana emanated from the car, police said.

The officer asked the passengers whether they had any marijuana in the car, and they handed the officer a bag each, police said. The driver, Jack Peter Tartamella, 19, of Fairfield, told the office he had smoked marijuana 45 minutes before the traffic stop, police said.

Tartamella was asked to perform a standard field sobriety test, which he passed, police said. But the officer determined that the erratic driving and admission of smoking before driving warranted charging him with driving under the influence. He was released on $100 cash bond and given a court date of Nov. 11.

A search of the car found 20 bags of marijuana and cash in a Monopoly box sitting next to Javed Wilson, 19, of Bridgeport. He told police that he sells the bags for $10 each.

Wilson was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to sell. He was issued a promise to appear in court Nov. 14.
