The crash happened just minutes before dozens of students spilled into the narrow street, which has no sidewalks, on their way back to campus from Super Bowl parties along the beach, officers said.
Police said Peter Jones, 26, of Oak Ridge Avenue, Summit, N.J., was traveling westbound on the roadway at a high rate of speed when he crossed a speed bump and his Ford truck went airborne.
The truck hit a parked car, which slammed into the supports for a home on the south side of the street, police said.
Jones’ truck then hit a series of rocks and shrubs on the north side of the road before striking the house and “taking out” the front stairs, police said.
The truck hit with such force, it lost its front wheels, police said.
Jones, who police identified as a Fairfield University student who lives on Fairfield Beach Road during the school year, was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for examination, according to the report.
No charges were filed, but the investigation was ongoing Monday.
