Loss prevention agents called Fairfield police after stopping Rachel Ortega, 18, of an unknown address, while she was walking out of the store with the Polaroid Tablet hidden under her jacket, police said.

According to the police report, she had been walking around the store before entering a changing room with clothes and the tablet. When she walked back out, she had no items, police said.

When asked about a man who had not left her side until she entered the dressing room, Ortega refused to identify him, calling him only David, police said.

Officers found Ortega's car in the parking lot with David in it, police said. He denied any knowledge of the shoplifting, police said.

Ortega was charged with sixth-degree larceny and a misdemeanor summons for misuse of places and failure to insure her car. She was released on a written promise to appear and given two court dates, Dec. 3 for the misdemeanor summons and Dec. 6 for the larceny.

Both she and David were warned to not return to the Kohl's store, police said.
