FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield police were set up outside a Stratfield Road home late Tuesday afternoon in connection with an investigation into reports of a man with a gun on the University of New Haven campus earlier in the day.
The home on the 1300 block of Stratfield Road is the residence of a UNH student who was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon by West Haven police, Fairfield Police said in a press release.
“We are awaiting the arrival of West Haven Police so they can continue their investigation and determine if any other crimes have been committed,” the statement says.
West Haven Police arrested a suspect earlier Tuesday after receiving reports of a man with a rifle on the University of New Haven’s South Campus.
The Fairfield resident, whose name has not been released, was issued a pistol permit in April, police said. Two handguns are legally registered to the home, and police were waiting to determine whether more are inside the home.
“The area remains secure and there is no present danger to anyone in Fairfield,” police said.
Traffic delays will be possible in the Stratfield Road area for the next several hours.
The lockdown at UNH ended at about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to the college's Twitter account.
