Fairfield Police Offer To Help Residents Install Car Seats Correctly

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Not sure how to install that car seat that seems like it was made by NASA?

The Fairfield Police Department -- dedicated to providing the public with information pertaining to the safety of child passengers in vehicles -- holds monthly safety classes for parents and caregivers to help untangle what goes where and how to make sure a child is safely buckled in the seat.

During the class certified safety technicians demonstrate and explain to caregivers about the proper selection, installation and use of car seats, booster seats and proper use of seat belts.

Having a carseat installed properly is no laughing manner. Car crashes are a leading cause of death for children age one to 13. These deaths and injuries can often be prevented by proper use of car seats, boosters and seat belts. In addition, state law requires all children to ride in an approved child safety seat until they are seven years old and 60 pounds.

Appointments are available throughout the month by reservation. Unfortunately, during April residents will not be able to make the appointments online, but they can do so by calling 203-254-4823.
