Todd Conley, 35, of Howe Avenue, had already turned himself in Tuesday for a similar burglary the same night at Spic & Span Market in Southport. In that incident, police said Conley stole 10 cartons of cigarettes valued at $2,160.
Both incidents occurred on June 2 between 1:20 and 2:15 a.m.
Police believe Conley used a concrete curb to smash the window at the One Rod Highway scale house, where there might have been a small amount of cash. Some empty bank bags from the scale house were found at the intersection of Center Street and Jelliff Lane and given to police not long after the break-in.
On Friday, Conley was charged with third-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief. He posted $35,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 2.
