FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Home Depot shoplifter fled on foot with nearly $300 worth of power tools Tuesday morning, police said.

The suspect entered the store, which is located at 541 Kings Highway Cut-Off, at 11 a.m. and returned five bags of mulch that he had purchased at a Home Depot in Stratford, police said.

But he also tried to return four smoke detectors but did not have a receipt for those items, police said.

On the way out of the store, police said he took two DeWalt power drills valued at $278.

Police said he was last seen running from the store. The incident is under police investigation.
