Fairfield Police Investigating Gunpoint ATM Stickup On New Year's Eve

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A U-Haul worker was robbed and nearly pistol-whipped in the face when he tried to make a New Year’s Eve deposit at the drive-through ATM at the Bank of America on Kings Highway Cutoff in Fairfield, police said.

The victim told police a tall man wearing all black and a black ski mask and holding a pistol approached him from behind near the ATM just before 8 p.m. During a brief struggle, he lost grip of his deposit bag containing about $778 and the suspect ran off with it, police said.

Police deployed a K-9 at the scene but did not find a suspect. The victim was not injured, police said.

It was unclear whether the incident was caught on surveillance video.
