Fairfield Police Chief Swears In Own Son, Two Other New Officers

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Fairfield has three new police officers, including the chief's son.

On Wednesday, First Selectman Michael Tetreau and Police Chief Gary McNamara swore in the newest members of the force — Matthew Bok, Virgil Procaccini III and the chief's son, Alex MacNamara.

The new officers will be starting training at the Connecticut Police Academy on Friday, Dec. 29.

They will attend the academy in Meriden for 26 weeks of training, living there from Monday through Friday. Upon successful completion of the academy, they will enter into Field Training for 20 weeks, where they will be observed by a senior officer to learn tactics, interview and interrogation techniques and the policies and procedures of the department.

They will then be on an 18-month probationary period during which they are routinely observed by police supervision.

Upon completion of the probationary period the Board of Police Commissioners must vote to approve their permanent appointment as patrol officer.

These new hires fill vacancies resulting from recent retirements.
