The chase began after Blessing Smith, of 46 Vine Street Apt. 3, shoplifted from a store in the Westfield-Trumbull Mall in August, police said. She reportedly struck a Trumbull police officer, who tried to stop her, and took off, according to police.

Several witnesses called 911 to report her reckless driving as she traveled from Trumbull to Fairfield, police said.

Blessing's vehicle collided with a car on Congress Street, police said. She sustained minor injuries in the accident and was transported to St. Vincent’s in Bridgeport, police said.

An occupant in the vehicle Blessing collided with was also treated for injuries, police said.

Blessing turned herself in to Fairfield Police on an active warrant on Sunday. She was charged with reckless driving, operating under the influence and operating without a license, police said.

Blessing’s bond is set at $10,000. Her court date is Oct. 26, according to police.
