Jean Downey, 51, of Park Avenue, told officers who found her at a friend’s house on Harborview Avenue, Bridgeport, that she left the scene because another car hit her car and she thought she would be blamed for the accident, police said.

According to police, Downey was traveling west on Kings Highway East around 2:20 p.m., when she ran a red light and collided with a second car.

A witness followed Downey, giving police a description of her dmaged Toyota Camry and her license plate number, police said.

She was charged with violating a traffic light and evading responsibility. She was released on a promise to appear in court on June 13, police said.
