Officers approached a group of employees from RNC Sales who were selling bottles of Advantage Cleaning products for $43 per bottle to homeowners Friday morning, police said.
The people warned that they weren't allowed to sell house-to-house without a permit from the town and a Connecticut state tax ID number, which they did not have, police said.
Later in the day, a homeowner on Rena Place called police saying that a person had come to the door attempting to sell items, police said.
Michael Logan, 55, was arrested shortly after 3 p.m. Friday afternoon and charged with not having a Connecticut sales tax ID and failing to get a transit merchant permit from the town.
Logan was held on $500 bond and taken to court Monday morning. Police say Logan's boss arrived at police headquarters to post bail for him. He was asked to leave his Florida driver's license when he said he had to leave to get the cash, police said. When he came back to the department, the boss took his license back and did not post bail for Logan, police said.
Police kept Logan in custody until he was transported to the courthouse Monday morning.
