Fairfield Police Apprehend Shoplifting Suspect Running From Store

The agent called Fairfield police and said a man attempted to leave the store with $118 in merchandise. She said she had been on the floor watching him put the merchandise into the cart before moving to the doors and going all the registers, police said.

When she approached him, he ran, she told police. Officers found Gregory Fields, 41, of Fairfield, running on Villa Avenue, police said. He told officers he wasn't shoplifting but that he forgot his wallet at home and was going to get it, police said.

Fields was charged with sixth-degree larceny and released on a written promise to appear in court on Dec. 12.
