Fairfield Man Arrested On Charges Of Threatening Family Member

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - After looking for a week for a Fairfield man who had made phone threats, officers found 29-year-old Salman Sumra hiding in a family member's home Wednesday morning, police said.

A family member had contacted police last week, saying that Sumra had threatened her over the phone, police said.

She told officers that Sumra had called her and asked of the whereabouts of his girlfriend, police said. According to Fairfield police, the Bridgeport Police Department is investigating Sumra about an assault on his girlfriend. After the assault, Sumra's relative helped the girlfriend go to a safe location, police said. 

According to the police report, when Sumra called his family member, he said, "I have nothing to lose. If I go back to jail, there will be a reason for it." He also told her that he had a gun, police said. 

During a routine check of the area, officers located Sumra at the house with no gun, police said.

He was taken into custody and transported to headquarters, where he was charged with second-degree threatening.

Sumra was also held on two arrest warrants on charges of failure to appear from the New London Police Department and from Connecticut State Police Troop E.
