Fairfield K-9 Officer Helps Bust Speeding I-95 Driver With 9 Pounds Of Coke

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Fairfield police K-9 officer helped the State Police bust a speeding motorist on I-95 who had nearly 9 pounds of cocaine and $250,000 in cash in his car, police said.

The incident began at 8:46 a.m. Saturday when a state police trooper stopped the vehicle with New York plates on northbound I-95 at Exit 35 in Milford, police said.

The trooper "detected several indicators indicative of narcotics trafficking and requested consent to search the vehicle," state police said.

The driver, Rueben Abreu, 46, of New York City, consented to the search of his car, state police said.

To assist with the search, State Police at Troop G in Bridgeport requested a narcotics detection dog from the area, and Fairfield Police Officer Kevin Wells and his K-9 Jagger responded.

A search by K-9 Jagger yielded a positive “hit” on a case containing four vacuum-sealed bricks of suspected cocaine, state police said. The bricks were later weighed at 8.7 pounds, or 3.95 kilograms, with a street value of more than $250,000, state police said.

Abreu was placed under arrest and transported to Troop G for processing. He was held on $300,000 bond and assigned a court date of March 14 at Milford Superior Court.
