According to police, John Tetreau turned from Black Rock Turnpike on to Burroughs Road in an effort to make a U-turn. But he hit the curb as well as the back end of a car stopped at the red light, police said.
When police arrived, John Tetreau was asked to perform a field sobriety test, which he "failed to perform to standard," police Lt. Sue Lussier said.
The passenger in the car that was hit complained of back pain but refused transport to the hospital, Lussier said. The Dodge pickup truck that Tetreau had been driving was towed, she said.
Officers took Tetreau back to headquarters and offered him legal counsel, which he refused, she said. He consented to a breath test and refused medical attention, Lussier said.
Tetreau was charged with driving under the influence, following too closely, operating an unregistered vehicle and driving with no insurance. He was released on a written promise to appear and given a court date of Aug. 6.
