Joseph Boccuzzi, 34, of Maplewood Terrace, Norwalk, has already been arrested for bank robberies in Stamford and Wilton and is suspected of more, police said.
The Fairfield incident happened around 4:12 p.m. Feb. 22 at the bank’s Old Post Road branch. An employee called police to report a masked man carrying a duffle bag attempting to open the bank door, which was locked for the evening, police said.
When he realized he was noticed by employees inside, the subject ran from the bank and drove off in a car headed towards I-95 southbound, police said.
Bank employees told police they believed the man was trying to commit a robbery, but showed up too late. The branch is only open until 4 p.m. most weekdays.
Police managed to trace the car, which was recently sold on the website Letgo and that led to Boccuzzi, police said.
On April 28, he was arrested in court on another matter and charged with criminal attempt to commit second-degree robbery in the Fairfield incident, police said.
On April 14, Boccuzzi was charged with second-degree robbery and first-degree larceny in the Wilton case, police said.
That robbery took place around 3 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Fairfield County Bank on Danbury Road.
Boccuzzi confessed to it, as well as three additional bank robberies and one attempted bank robbery at other banks in Fairfield County, Wilton police said.
On April 18, he was arraigned for robbing the First County Bank in Stamford twice, police said.
