Allen Freedman, 66, was charged with reckless driving, engaging in pursuit, improper passing, failure to drive in the proper lane, driving the wrong way, unsafe backing, failure to obey a control signal and failure to obey a stop sign, police said.
At about 12:42 a.m. July 10, an officer saw a white Honda Accord near the intersection of Farist and Stillson roads.
Thinking it might be stolen, the officer pulled his cruiser up for a closer look and the Honda took off, eventually traveling on Black Rock Turnpike at a speed of about 45 to 50 mph, police said.
The officer gave chase and the cars drove on Stillson, Burr Street, Brookside Drive and Mill Plain Road before the officer, who got the car’s license plate, terminated the pursuit, police said.
The car was later found in the parking lot of Panera Bread on Black Rock Turnpike. Surveillance video showed a man who appeared to be Freedman leaving the car there, police said.
Freedman, whose mother owns the car, was arrested on a warrant Friday. He was released on a promise to appear in court on Aug. 18.
