The second full week in April is dedicated as National Telecommunicator Week. This week recognizes the dedicated women and men who service the community as public safety dispatchers.
Dispatchers are the vital link between citizens needing help and responders. Telecommunicators work 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The dispatchers in Fairfield assist officers and firefighters as well as citizens who call with emergencies.
Last year, Fairfield's telecommunicators processed more than 44,000 calls for service. They are there during all town emergencies, gathering and providing information for the responders, showing compassion to callers in distress and even providing instructions to people experiencing medical emergencies.
Telecommunicators are an integral part of the emergency team in Fairfield and have an important role in "Making Fairfield Safer."
