A Ridgefield woman told police that she hailed a cab at the Fairfield train station on the morning of January 21. After she and the driver negotiated a fare to Ridgefield, the woman left her purse in the back of the cab while going to an ATM, police say. She later found that her American Express card was missing, according to the police report.

Investigators believe that the cab’s driver, Nestor Rodriguez, 36, of Rutland Avenue took the card while the purse was unattended, police say. He is also suspected of using the card to make $1,165 worth of purchases at local stores and online outlets, according to the police report.

Rodriguez was arrested on a warrant over the weekend and charged with fourth-degree larceny, credit card theft, illegal use of a credit card, receiving goods purchased from the illegal use of a card, third-degree forgery and third-degree identity theft. His bond was set at $20,000, and he is due in court on June 25.
