A Fairfield officer on regular patrol spotted the car and was approaching it when the driver of a second car got out and said he had been about to call 911, police said.
The driver told the officer that the white Lexus had been swerving, nearly struck pedestrians and almost caused several head-on accidents, police said.
As the officer went to approach the Lexus, it began to drive away, police said. A short time later, the officer caught up with and stopped the car at Reed Street, police said.
A strong smell of alcohol was emanating from the driver, police said.
Diane Baker, 54, was charged with failure to drive in the right lane and driving under the influence.
She was picked up at police headquarters by a friend after posting $100 bond and is due in court on June 30.
