It happened in Middlesex County just after 4 a.m. Saturday, April 16 on southbound Route 9 in the area of Exit 19 in Cromwell.
The assigned state police cruiser crashed with the wrong-way vehicle, a 2016 Honda Accord, as it was traveling northbound in the left lane of the southbound side.
The driver of the Honda, identified as Guy Raffles of Meriden, age 65, stated he was not injured and was asked to perform a series of field sobriety tests, which he failed to perform to standard, state police said.
Raffles was taken into custody for operating under the influence of drugs/alcohol, said state police.
The 29-year-old trooper was taken to Hartford Hospital for treatment of what was described by state police as a possible injury.
Raffles was transported, processed, and released at Troop H Hartford on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, May 6.
