An Arbor Terrace woman reported the black 2016 Infiniti QX60, missing on Friday morning, police said. She told Fairfield officers she had left it unlocked with the keys inside outside her home the night before, police said.
But it turned out the car had already been recovered in Waterbury before she even reported it missing, police said.
Waterbury police found the Infiniti — with broken front and rear axles — while they were trying to stop a car stolen from Westport, police said. Witnesses said they saw several juveniles fleeing the Fairfield car in the early hours of Jan. 6, police said.
Fairfield has logged a number of thefts of and from unlocked cars in recent weeks, said Police Lt. Robert Kalamaras.
“We urge people to take their keys inside and lock their car doors,” he said.
