The final Connecticut State Police holiday statistics for the July 4th Holiday Operation are:
- Total accidents: 170
- With injury: 48
- Fatal: 2
- DUI Arrests: 33
- Speeding tickets: 859
- Other hazardous moving violation tickets: 2,461
The holiday count began on July 3 at midnight and continued until midnight on July 5.
Before the holiday count began, a 17-year-old girl was killed when she was struck by a car while crossing Lake Avenue Extension in Danbury just before 9:30 p.m. July 2, police said. Rebecca Draper Townsend was a 2015 graduate of Immaculate High School in Danbury and was headed to Notre Dame in the fall.
For 2014, the holiday period was July 3 to July 6, a full day longer due to the calendar. The final statistics included:
- Total accidents: 312
- With injury: 47
- Fatals: 0
- DUI Arrests: 42
- Speeding tickets: 1,559
- Other hazardous moving violation tickets: 3,841
State Troopers will continue to enforce all motor vehicle laws throughout the summer.
