FAIRFIELD, Conn. A Bridgeport man has been charged with a pair of thefts at two Fairfield homes earlier this summer.
Brian Brainard, 37, was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, and one count each of fifth- and sixth-degree larceny, both misdemeanors. Bond was set at $6,000, and he appeared in court Wednesday.
A Stoneleigh Road resident reported the theft of a set of golf clubs from his open garage on June 6. The resident reported seeing a white man in his 30s fleeing the scene in a gray pickup truck, according to the police report. The clubs were valued at $1,000.
A similar truck was seen driving from the scene of a theft on Marlborough Terrace the next day, police say. A witness told police a man drove up in the truck, got out and took a backpack-style leaf blower from a trailer parked on the street. That item was worth an estimated $300.
Investigators found that the clubs and the leaf blower were sold to a pawn shop in Bridgeport, according to the police report. The sale was traced to Brainard, police say. Stratford Police told Fairfield detectives that Brainard confessed to one of the thefts while in custody in connection with similar crimes in that town, according to police reports.
