In April, the director of Visiting Angels, a Fairfield-based home care agency, told police that someone had cashed a fraudulent check for $1,130 against the agency’s account. Another attempt — this time a check for $1,530 — was made at the Wells Fargo Bank in Trumbull, but that check was not cashed, police said.

On April 22, after another attempt with a check for $1,240, the bank account was flagged, police said.

Investigators determined the check-cashing scheme involved six people and sought warrants for them.

On Friday, Bridgeport police informed Fairfield police that they had one of the individuals, Matthew Brown, 51, of Pennsylvania Avenue, in custody on a disorderly conduct charge, according to police reports.

He was transported to the Fairfield Police Department and charged with fourth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny, second-degree forgery and conspiracy to commit second-degree forgery, police said.

He was held on $20,000 bond and is expected to appear in court on June 20, police said.
