The 41-year-old cyclist was traveling west on Ludlowe Road at about 8:40 a.m. Saturday, when he collided head-on with a car traveling in the eastbound lane, police said.

A witness told police the cyclist was traveling in the center of the road at “a good rate of speed,” police said. The car driver told police she tried to brake when she saw the bike, but it was too late.

In addition to the fracture, the cyclist sustained non-life-threatening injuries to his head and spine, police said. He was treated at Bridgeport Hospital.

He was given a verbal warning, and no other charges were filed.
