He stole the customer’s credit card number after a transaction at the wholesale club on Dec. 13, police said.

Sergio Polo Molina, 22, of Bridgeport, turned himself at police headquarters at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday after he was notified of a warrant issued for his arrest, police said.

The owners of the credit card -- a husband and wife who share a joint account -- became suspicious when they attempted to use the card on Jan. 5 but were unable to because of fraudulent charges on the account, according to police. The Fairfield police report said the last transaction the couple was aware of was on Dec. 13.

The issue was brought to management’s attention, and authorities were able to use the receipt from the Dec. 13 transaction, coupled with surveillance footage, to narrow their suspect list down to Molina, police said.

Over the past two months, Molina charged more than $1,200 to the credit card account, police said. Officers said the Brooks Street resident used the victims' credit card number to purchase a number of items, including kitty litter, iced tea, cases of Heineken beer, Visa gift cards and a 16 gigabyte iPod Touch.

Molina was charged with fourth-degree larceny, illegal use of a credit card and receiving goods or services that were obtained illegally. He was released on a promise to appear in court Feb. 27.
