Two of the teens charged, 13 and 14, were given court dates and handed over to their parents' custody, police said. A third, Carl James, 18, of Bridgeport, was charged with third-degree larceny, third-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, second-degree criminal trover and possession of burglary tools after police took him in to custody.

According to the police report, James and the two juveniles were seen at the Fairfield Metro train station, cutting a chain on the scooter with large bolt cutters. They hid the scooter behind a large box truck before running west on Kings Highway, police said.

Officers discovered the three teens had damaged the ignition of the scooter, which resulted in the criminal trover charge against James, police said. Officers stopped one of the juveniles on New England Avenue and James and the second juvenile half a block farther west, police said.

After officers apprehended the three teens, wire cutters and vice grips were found in James' possession and he was taken back to headquarters, police said. The minors were given court dates of Sept. 27.

James was released on a written promise to appear and is due at Bridgeport Superior Court on Sept. 24.
