Wladyslawa Gladys Pijska, 89, Of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Wladyslawa Gladys Pijska, a resident of Fairfield, died Saturday, Jan. 16. She was 89.

Born in Dluzec, Poland to Pawel and Victoria Gruca. During the second World War, she survived the German occupation of Poland and internment in the Klagenfurt labor camp. Following the war, Pijska enlisted in the Polish army as a member of the "ATS" or women's auxiliary service. Her duties saw her stationed in Penley, Wales, where she worked as a waitress for medical staff at Penley Polish Hospital No. 3.

She is survived by her daughter Christine DiNardo and husband Salvatore; her granddaughter Jeanne McKenney and husband Sean; and granddaughter Lauren DiNardo. She also leaves her great-grandchildren Ryan and Brynn McKenney.

She was predeceased by both her husband and son.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Michael the Archangel Church followed by interment in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.

Calling hours will take place from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday in the Frank Radozycki and Sons Funeral Home, 305 Pulaski St. Bridgeport directly across from St. Michael's Church.
