Nosal was born Oct. 16. 1922, in Ridgeley, W. Va., daughter of James and Catherine (Fisher) Ott. She was raised and lived in West Virginia until she joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 where she was an aircraft mechanic. She was married to Frank M. Nosal. After serving the country she and her husband settled in Connecticut., and raised their six children. She served as the first woman chairperson of the Fairfield Memorial Day Parade, was a life member and first woman commander of American Legion Post 74, and was master of the Greenfield Hill Grange. She was a member of First Church Congregational in Fairfield where she volunteered at "The Store" for many years.
Nosal is also survived by her children, Frank Nosal, Jr. (Diane) of Wake Forest, N.C., James Nosal (Janet) of Fairfield, Pa., Mary Graham-Gracewski (Tom) of Broad Brook, Patricia Birmingham (Robert) of Monroe, Nancy Olofson (Erik) of Bridgeport and Robert Nosal (Amy) of Newtown; sister, Mildred Watson of S.C.; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild. She was predeceased by her parents.
Calling hours are Sunday, Sept. 8 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9 at First Church Congregational, Fairfield with the Rev. David Spollett officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
