Evarts was born Nov. 28, 1943, the son of Vincent J. and Lorena Blyth Evarts. He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Fairfield and held three degrees from Fairfield University. He taught in the Norwalk Public Schools and Norwalk Community College. He held administrative posts in both the Norwalk and Danbury School systems before retiring after 37 years in education. After retiring, he worked part-time at the University of Bridgeport as a supervisor of student teachers.
Evarts is survived by his wife, Claudette; children, David and girlfriend, Kim, and Mary Moquin (Bruce); three grandchildren; and a great-grandson; sister, Eileen (George) McMahon of Fairfield; and several cousins, two nephews and two godchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; and brother, Daniel.
Calling hours are Thursday, July 17, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 S Benson Road, Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 18, at 11 a.m. meeting directly at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield. Burial will be private.
