Stephen Bowers, 53, Longtime Fairfield Resident, Worked At GE

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Stephen Thornley Bowers, 53, a longtime Fairfield resident, died surrounded by his family Sunday, July 26, at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a long battle with cardiac sarcoidosis.

Bowers was born Oct. 18, 1961, in Norwalk, Ohio, to the late Rev. Theodore W. Bowers and the recently deceased Carolyn Thornley Bowers.

He was a director of treasury services at GE for the past six years. Before that, he worked for Swiss Bank Corp./UBS for 17 years in FX operations.

Bowers was an avid Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan, and, in his free time, he liked to work around his house and yard.

He coached soccer and worked with the Boy Scouts and Warde Gridiron Club. In addition, along with his wife, he volunteered annually at the Septemberfest for Our Lady of Assumption Church.

Bowers is survived by his wife, Donna, and their three children, Katherine, Jonathan, and Jennifer; his brother Michael and his wife Christina of Putnam; and several sisters- and brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 S. Benson Road, Fairfield. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Sacred Heart University, 5151 Park Avenue, Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to honor his memory through the establishment of a memorial fund at Sacred Heart University that will provide financial assistance to graduating students as they enter the fields of physical therapy and cardiac care nursing. Memorial contributions can be made online, by phone at 203-365-4526 or by mail. Please mail checks payable to "Sacred Heart University" with "in Memory of Stephen Bowers" in the memo to Sacred Heart University, Office of Annual Giving, 5151 Park Ave., Fairfield, CT 06825.
