He was born Sept. 25, 1948, in Laon, France. He immigrated to the United States in 1955 and had been a longtime resident of Connecticut.
He was an engineer at Sikorsky Aircraft for more than 37 years. He was well known for his love of deep-sea fishing, baking, the results of which he shared with family, friends and co-workers, travel and motorcycles.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Carlson; his father, Gerald Steer of Shelton; his sister and brother-in-law, Yasmine and Craig Cronin of North Haven; two sons, James and Christopher, both of Stratford; his stepchildren, Michael Carter of Norwalk and Julia Carter of Miami; his aunt Virginia and uncle Jim of Pennsylvania; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield Center. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23 also at the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home.
Donations may be provided in lieu of flowers to Camp Horizons at P.O. Box 323, South Windham, CT 06266. The camp supports autistic children, adults and their families, including his Godson.
