Richard E. Gordon, 94, Of Fairfield, WWII Veteran

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Richard E. Gordon of Fairfield died Sunday, June 23. He was 94.

Gordon was born Nov. 18, 1918, in Ashland, Maine and later moved to the Bridgeport area with his family and attended Bassick High School. A veteran of World War II, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1941 and served in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theaters. Upon completion of his service, he returned home to Bridgeport. He worked as a supervisor for the Bridgeport postal service until his retirement in 1980.

Gordon is survived by his children, Richard R. Gordon (Patricia) of Wallingford and Kathleen Jahn (Roger) of Monroe; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; sister-in-law, Kay Ostrosky of Fairfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Claire Freeman Gordon.

Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 28 in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 29 at Holy Family Church 700 Old Stratfield Road, Fairfield with interment to follow in St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford.
