FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Mary Ann O'Bara Bateson, a longtime Fairfield resident, died Nov. 3. She was 81.
Born in Fairfield, Bateson was the daughter of Stanley F. and Margaret O’Bara. She graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School and St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in 1952.
She was a lifelong resident before moving to Brighton Gardens in Stamford eight years ago. She was married to Edward C. Bateson, who predeceased her.
Bateson worked as a registered nurse and nursing supervisor throughout a 45-year career. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a nurse at Carolton Convalescent Hospital.
She was a member of the Columbiettes and a volunteer for the United Home Care hospice program and Fairfield University Quick Center for the Arts.
Bateson is survived by two sons, John (Doreen) Bateson, of New Hampshire, and Edward (Michele) Bateson, of Fairfield; two daughters, Susan (Stephen S. Fuller) Bateson, of Arlington, Va., and Carol Bateson (Peter) Nolin, of Norwalk; a brother, Stanley O'Bara, and his partner, Linda Reaney, of Arizona; a sister-in-law, Merideen O'Bara, of California; and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Jean Mott; and a brother, Edward O'Bara.
Services are private. Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home in Fairfield Center is handling arrangements.
