Marion Rowena Tetreau, 88, Of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Marion Rowena (Shattuck) Tetreau of Fairfield died Tuesday, June 4. She was 88.

Tetreau was born January 1, 1925, in Buffalo, N.Y. Soon after, she moved to Greenfield, Mass. She then moved to Springfield, Mass., and spent most of her younger life there. She attended a technical high school. After marriage, she moved to Staten Island/New York City. They left NYC for Brewer, Maine. Later, they moved to Fairfield. She helped start Fairfield’s centralized substitute teacher scheduling program for all the schools and worked there for several years.

Tetreau was a member of the Holy Family Church and the Gaelic-American Club, both in Fairfield. She also worked to make her husband’s Singing Oaks Day Camp in Weston successful – where hundreds of children spent part of their summer horseback riding, swimming, archery, tennis, baseball, nature hikes, arts and crafts and learning to play well together. She was a longtime member of the Gaelic American Club where she was a volunteer for the Senior Luncheon as well as the Annual Irish Festival.

Tetreau is survived by her husband, Fern Tetreau; sons, Mike of Fairfield, Bill (Cheryl) of Zionsville, Pa., Jack of Fairfield; and three grandchildren.

Calling hours are Friday, June 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, in Fairfield Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 8 at 10 a.m. directly at Holy Family Church in Fairfield.  Interment will be private.
