Margaret Komenda, 86, Longtime Fairfield Resident

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Margaret Komenda of Fairfield died Monday, Nov. 4. She was 86.

Komenda was born in Bridgeport, she was a longtime Fairfield resident. She was a graduate of St. Vincent’s School of Nursing, where she became an RN.  She worked as a nurse at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, the VNA, and the Carolton, prior to retiring from Ella Grasso Center in Stratford. Post retirement, she was active in the Fairfield Senior’s Pacers and a volunteer with the Catholic Charities in Bridgeport.  She was a longtime parishioner and eucharistic minister at Holy Cross Church in Fairfield. Komenda is survived by her children, Michael Komenda of Fairfield, Susan Lindquist (Gary) of Fairfield, William (Michele) Komenda of Fairfield and Stephen (Chris) Gaffney of Brooklyn, N.Y.; brother, Francis Gaffney of Hallandale, Fla.; three nephews; six grandchildren; a great granddaughter; and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents; and brother, Thomas Gaffney.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. directly at Holy Cross Church, 750 Tahmore Dr. in Fairfield. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.
