Marcella Sires, 85, Fairfield Resident

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Marcella R. Gotsch Sires, 85, of Fairfield, died Tuesday, Dec. 15. 

Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of John and Marcella Gotsch. 

She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Dr. William O. Sires. 

Sires had been a Fairfield resident since 1958. She attended the University of Bridgeport. 

Before her marriage, she worked as a medical secretary. She was an active member of St. Vincent's Hospital Auxiliary for many years, drove for Meals on Wheels in the Fairfield area and taught English as a Second Language. 

She is survived by her five children Marcella Elizabeth Sires and her husband, Professor Joseph Selling of Brussels, Belgium, Melissa Sires Arnold of Fairfield, Blaise Sires and his partner, Nicole Wills of New Jersey, Mary Lee Sires and her husband, John Pyrch of Black Rock and Moira Sires Thompson and her husband, William Thompson of Eldoret, Kenya. 

She is also survived by a sister, Marijane Paulin and her husband, Dennis Paulin of Colorado; a brother, John Gotsch and his wife, Paula Gotsch of New Jersey; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

The family gives special thanks to her caregivers Beverly, Audrey, Alexa and the entire Connecticut Hospice Staff. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Dec. 18, at 10 a.m., at St. Luke Church, 84 Long Lots Road, Westport. 

Interment will be private. Friends may call on Thursday, Dec. 17, from 5-8 p.m. at the Spear-Miller Funeral home, 39 S. Benson Road, Fairfield. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Homes International, P.O. 654, Marion, CT 06444 and to Connecticut Hospice, 1 Park St., Norwalk, CT 06851.
