Joseph Kiraly, 89, Lifelong Fairfield Resident

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Lifelong Fairfield resident Joseph Kiraly died on Thursday, March 31. He was 89.

Kiraly graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School and received his bachelor's in civil engineering from Yale. While at Yale, he enrolled in the Naval ROTC program and was commissioned an ensign upon graduation. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and continued to serve in the Naval Reserves, retiring as a lieutenant commander, following 25 years of service.

Kiraly worked for various architectural metalworks companies throughout his career, in both Connecticut and New York.

He is survived by his children, Linda Kiraly of Bristol, Robert Kiraly and his wife Judith of Hamden, Stephen Kiraly and his wife Dianna of Woodbury, Kenneth Kiraly and his wife Susan of Ocean City, Maryland, Sue Kiraly and her partner Mary Ellen Ryan of Trumbull, and Mary Cuff and her husband Steven of Huntersville, North Carolina; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Kiraly was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Nagy Kiraly; parents Stephen and Margaret Kiraly; four brothers; and a great-grandson.

Visiting hours will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd., in Fairfield. A mass will be held at noon, also on Saturday, at St. Emery's Church, 838 Kings Highway, in Fairfield. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
